My name is Jacob, and I'm a commercial cinematographer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm currently employed at Chop & Hue where I hold the role of Head of Production // Director of Photography.

I try to keep things simple, both in how I shoot and how I work with people. I’m drawn to natural light and a grounded feel. I try not to over-light or over-complicate things. If a scene already looks good, I try to stay out of the way and let it breathe.

My love for film photography has me drawn to the texture, the warmth, the imperfections...it feels honest. That same organic, true-to-life quality is what I aim for in my motion work.

On set, I’m pretty laid back. I like working with people who enjoy the process and don’t take things too seriously. The best days are the ones where everyone’s in it together, collaborative, no egos, just a bunch of folks trying to make something good.
